Tunji Adeyemi

Tunji is an astute and seasoned transport lawyer that has advised on a broad spectrum of shipping and aviation transactions in Nigeria. He is a pioneer member of the Shipping, Aviation and International Trade Practice Team of the Firm that has advised on leading market transactions in the past decade, resulting in the ranking of the Firm as Tier 1 Shipping and Transport in the Legal 500 EMEA rankings for more than four consecutive years.

Tunji’s career is a distinction of many firsts, including the first and only Lawyer from Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa to be selected as Dabelstein & Passehl Shipping Insurance Scholar in Hamburg, Germany. Tunji also led the team that advised a Canadian aircraft company in its first offshore finance lease transaction in respect of a DHC-6 Series 400 Aircraft to a leading Nigerian operator. He also led the team that advised a leading Dutch P&I Insurance Company on various Nigerian legal and regulatory requirements, resulting in the pioneer official approval by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency for the issuance of Blue Cards pursuant to the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage, International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage and the Athens Convention. The first ever for a non-member of the International Group of P&I Clubs.

Tunii has and continues to advise leading local and international shipping companies, shipping lines, offshore service operators, P&I Clubs, insurance companies, commodity traders, airlines, financial institutions, government agencies and parastatals in the transport sector.

He has received recognition by the World Bank for his contributions to the Doing Business Report, the flagship publication of the World Bank that benchmarks business regulations in 190 countries. His expertise continues to be much sought after in the Nigerian market, and he has written on a number of current developments in the shipping industry in local and international publications.

In his spare time, Tunji reads biographies and watches football.
